In this unit, we review the definition of prompting and the guidelines to adhere to when using prompts. Next we review the different types of prompts and discuss the difference between response prompts and stimulus prompts. We then discuss the concept of how to transfer stimulus control, so that the client can move from receiving prompts to giving independent, correct responses. Then, we take a closer look at fading prompts and errorless learning. We then go over various error-correction procedures. Lastly, we review the concept of differential reinforcement and how to use it to increase a client’s motivation to perform independently.
Participants learn about:
1) The different types of prompts the hierarchy of prompts
2) Stimulus control transfer
3) Stimulus fading
4) Prompt and prompt fading
5) Differential reinforcement
