In this training, we discuss pivotal response treatment, or PRT, which is a research-based, naturalistic teaching strategy. PRT was developed by Dr.’s Robert and Lynn Koegel. They were concerned with traditional interventions that taught skills one-by-one in a time-consuming manner. Their goal was to find “pivotal areas,” that when taught, would lead to widespread improvements in thousands of other skills, so that they would not need to be taught one-by-one.
Participants will be able to:
1) List and describe the components of PRT
2) Describe what a pivotal behavior is
3) Identify the four empirically supported pivotal behaviors
4) Distinguish between good and poor examples of the components of PRT
