Verbal Operants & Interventions

Since individuals with autism typically have one or more problems with communication, teaching language to clients with autism is a critical component to their success. Within the field of ABA, language skills are referred to as “verbal behavior.” This conceptual framework, initially put forth by B.F. Skinner in his 1957 book titled “Verbal Behavior,” is a useful guide to teaching clients with autism to use language for a variety of functions.
